So I have 2 ideas for a game... but I don't know which is better.
1. Mega Man X1 Remake (MMXRM)
MMXRM would be what Maverick Hunter X should have been, but in 2D.
Engine/Gameplay:
The engine would be based heavily on my very own
Mega Man X++, made to be the most accurate Mega Man X Engine ever made. The game would be developed smoothly alongside the X++ engine. Some edits to the engine would be made to accommodate new sprites and new mechanics.
The main difference in the game besides slightly smoother fine-tuned X gameplay, like how X2 slightly streamlined X's gameplay, would be the ability to play as Zero, X4 style. Obviously very, very far off-canon, but this feature is made to be fun, not to fit into the story.
Other potential features include super-customizable difficulty, brand new enemies plus more variations on old ones, new boss moves, and super special secrets.
Graphics:
Sprites would either be these sprites, or similar "re-made" X sprites:

The ones at the link look like this:
Or if we get some good spriters, we could hopefully
custom make some.
The UI would be mostly similar except maybe a couple of more colors added to shade it.
Enemies should also be remade, if nothing else at least shaded and a tiny bit more detail added, but ideally they would all be re-sprited entirely.
Same idea for tilesets.
Sound/Music:
Options for sound would be classic X sounds, MHX sounds, or X4 sounds.
Music would either be various remixes by people like Breis (if permission given),
or if we get some good musicians, we could hopefully
custom make some.
Team needed would be:
- 1-2 programmers (I am one, another would be nice if they knew Lua really well.)
- 2-5 ("24 bit") re-spriters. (Only 2 or so really "needed" but 3+ would be ideal!)
- 1-3 remixers. (None "needed" to make it but game would be
way better with some!)
- 4-5 play testers. (Ranging from noob to pro, and to look for bugs, not just play.)
2. Mega Man X4 Demake
This Mega Man X4 Demake would be what X4 should have been. No, really, it should have been 16-bit.
Engine/Gameplay:
The engine would be based heavily on my very own
Mega Man X++, made to be the most accurate Mega Man X Engine ever made. The game would be developed smoothly alongside the X++ engine. Some edits to the engine would be made to implement X4 mechanics in X1-3 style.
The main gameplay difference in the game would be the clunky X4 movement changing to the crisp X1-3 movement and attack mechanics.
There wouldn't need to be many other extra features since this is a demake, not an "updated" remake.
Graphics:
Most X sprites would be from X1-3, and remaining ones should be custom sprited by our spriters. If our spriters are unable to make 16-bit Zero saber sprites then we can use plenty of them found online as a last resort.
But again, hopefully, we would custom make some.
The UI would be basically copy-pasted from X1-3, except the boss health bar would have the repliforce logo.
Enemies would be made to look as close to X1-3 as possible, most of them their shape simplified and animation count probably reduced.
If I recall correctly some X1-like enemies are already in X4, so we could easily slightly edit or even just copy some X1 enemies to replace those.
Tilesets, would definitely need to be 100% custom demade, but some X1-3 tilesets could probably be used as a base for some of them.
Sound/Music:
Classic X sounds would be used for just about everything. But we would need someone to demake some X4 sound effects into SNES style.
Music would either be various remixes by people like Dracula9AntiChapel (if permission given),
or if we get some good musicians, we could hopefully custom make some.
In terms of custom music, X2 instruments would be preferable, but we could also go for a mix per-level, so one level would sound like it's from X1, another like it's from X3 etc...
Team needed would be:
- 1-2 programmers (I am one, another would be nice if they knew Lua really well.)
- 2-5 ("16 bit") de-spriters. (Only 2 or so really "needed" but 3+ would be ideal!)
- 1-3 demixers. (None "needed" to make it but game would be
way better with some!)
- 1-2 sound designers. (Basically, we need some people to turn X4 SFX into X1-style SFX.)
- 4-5 play testers. (Ranging from noob to pro, and to look for bugs, not just play.)
So what do you think? Which one do you like better?
