A Mega Man SNES style remake?

$

I've been doing some sprite work and made a cover track for a Mega Man 7 style remake of Mega Man 1, and I want this to be a REAL thing. I'm looking for people who can do coding, bug testing, spritework, background work, and music covers for it. I was thinking of it being made in Game Maker: Studio 1.4. I want it to be accurate to the Super Nintendo's limitations, and I know that I'd be biting off more than what I could chew if I said that "I was doing it alone," which is why I'm asking if anyone would like to help on the project, and I will be helping with all 5 subjects, even if my knowledge is quite low on this type of stuff.

My personal standards are:

MilkyTracker, OpenMPT, or FL Studio for the music, keep it within a 6 to 8 channel limitation, remember, in MilkyTracker and OpenMPT to save it as a .it and send it to me, I'll do the rendering.

Paint.net, Photoshop, or GraphicsGale for the sprites and backgrounds, keeping it accurate to the Super Nintendo's limitations, as I've stated before.

Clean, stable programming, I really don't want this fangame to be junk when it comes to fixing its bugs.

Anyways, since 3 days ago, I've been working on the sprites and music, the current title for it is "Super Mega Man," not to be confused with the Super Mega Man 2 or 3 fangames, which is why I'm thinking about changing it.

Sprites and fonts (keep in mind, 90% of these are edits and/or assembled together from screenshots taken by snes9x, but I do shade sprites.): [Image: 226741a93a6bf02b523434238aff18ac.png][Image: f46551b6051ea49778d35ba49934ac61.png][Image: e971657c049556ac04eb7727042ae1b5.png][Image: 535f0ce1fc18167d3ede86f9998521ac.png][Image: 87ebad62c217808e2236d7a5d186ca92.png]

I hope I can get a good team to help me work on this project.

Whoops; forgot the cover track. https://vocaroo.com/i/s1Vf1niKeKaq

Sorry if it doesn't loop.

Bouncy Mega Man fangame (title pending)

If you know me, you'll know that I'm a huge sucker for bouncy worlds. My MaGMML2 level submission, Bouncy Castle, had the screen bounce on timed intervals, but was infamously disqualified after ACESpark got motion sick when attempting to judge it, whilst others found it annoying, but there were some other people who found it fun overall.

Of course, instead of just releasing a new version of Bouncy Castle with a reworked bouncy mechanic, I have decided to go the extra mile and attempt to make a whole Mega Man fangame with it instead.

The Bounciness Mechanic
Whenever Mega Man or any enemy lands, the terrain wobbles based on how fast their landing is and causes anyone and any item on the ground to bounce, until the wobble dies down. You can also bounce super high if you hold down the Jump button. The bounciness also affects floating platforms and other things you can stand on. Due to the bounciness, Rush Coil will not be featured in the game for redundancy.

The bounciness could also be used for some unique scenarios. Say, there's a small passage you need to slide through. However, there an enemy that's constantly jumping and making the ground wobble, which constantly messes with your footing and preventing you from sliding. You'll need to kill this enemy so that you can slide again. Or what about you going through a corridor with a low spike ceiling. There's an enemy that jumps periodically, and you'll need to stand in a safe zone when it jumps or you'll be launched into the spikes.

Robot Master Line-up
There will be a group of 6 Robot Masters taken from the official games. Each one will be selected based on their suitability in a bouncy environment, with any tweaks to their original behaviour if applicable (i.e. Plant Man will no longer walk towards you like he did in Mega Man 6). There will be an intro stage to introduce you to the bounciness mechanic, with a boss that will have just have Toad Man's jumping movement pattern (and without Rain Flush).

It should be noted that I will not be using Rockman 7/8 FC assets (sorry, Spring Man).

Here are the planned Robot Masters (pending; liable to change):
  • Bomb Man
  • Plant Man
  • ____ Man
  • ____ Man
  • ____ Man
  • ____ Man

WIP animations showing the concept (be wary of possible motion sickness!)

Much of this is still a proof of concept, and is very much subject to change. The game will be built upon the MaGMML3 devkit once it's released.

Can someone please give me Robert Oakes/Hypershell's old X4-X6 Custom Sprites, particularly for the Front-Facing Rising Slash for Zero?

Also, a sprite sheet of X1 Zero in 32-bit, particularly using the Z-Saber, X4-X5-style?

And finally, can someone please make ladder sprites of this rendition of Axl. If done, this will be the absolute greatest Axl sprite sheet in history:

I just wanted to give a heads up to the guys who did quint's revenge. One of the best fan games I have ever played. I am in the process of adding quint to the roster of Robot Master Tournament. I have modeled quint after his move set in quint's revenge as a nod to the creators. Thanks a lot for the great game!
The newest version which includes quint will be released in the next few weeks

Friend Shaped Engine (GMS): Beta release

After a year of development I'm finally ready to release the first beta release for Friend Shaped Engine
[Image: sWWR0PG.png]

FSE goal is to emulate the gameplay from the Kirby series using Kirby's adventure as a base, while also adding new features such as the bomb ability, and the ability to use powers differently on input, (for example aiming the cutter ability)

Be warned this engine's incomplete, if you want to see further development I have a discord channel for the engine here

I wouldn't recommend using this is you're a novice programmer as a large amount of code is uncommented, I'll try to have the engine fully documented by the final release.

Read me
Code:
Warning: this is a beta release of the engine, this means it is incomplete and bugs will show up.

While this engine is based on Kirby's Adventure, I have aimed to try and make it a more general kirby engine,
some of these changes include new abilities such as Bomb, multiple ways to use abilities such as aiming cutter,
and changing the water spray attack to be the small bubble attack from more recent games.

A lot of element such as enemies and example levels are incomplete, and a lot of the code is uncommented, I plan
on finishing all of these in the next release.

if you're interested in seeing further development, helping by finding bugs, helping code fixes or engine suggestions
then you can join the discord channel for the engine.
https://discord.gg/NKYaj4Y

while I doubt this'll gain much attention, just to be safe I ask that this engine not be publicized much to
avoid confusing this with an official product.

===== Controls =====
X = Jump
Z = Attack
Shift = Drop
Enter = Pause
F2 = restart

Cut Man's Bad Scissors Day: The Return of Oats [demo state]

NOTICE: This game has an amount of strange things like crudely drawn sprites, bizarre plotlines, intentional english inaccuracy and mild content. This is a parody game and any real life person involved in this game is NOT harmed at all, just so the villain's depictions are made solely for fun.

In Monsteropolis, nobody can hear you funpost.

This game is based off one of the worst Mega Man 2 ROM hacks to ever date, Cut Man's Bad Scizzors Day, It follows the story of a sort-of a "retired from fighting" robot master, Cut Man (from Mega Man 1), whose role of "king of the world" has been defamated by a oatmeal company known as the Mr. Quaker Oats. This game is a follow up to said ROM hack, and it starts right after the ending of the ROM hack (Cut Man has defeated Wilford Brimley, the tv advertiser for Mr. Quaker Oats, who has summoned 8 pop culture characters (the "evals") including Pikachu, Jackie Chan, Kangaroo Jack, the Lucky Charms Man, Aquaman, George W. Washington, Britney Spears and Carrot Top), where Cut Man has become king again, until Wilford apparently rises up again (a reference to the Mega Man games' plot where Dr. Wily returns after every loss) and swears for revenge on Cut Man by sending him few of his old evals aswell his new ones.
It is time for Cut Man to get back on his job, along with his new friend Elec Man, to defeat the evil company.

For an interesting take on this fan-made sequel (that nobody asked for), this game makes use of WreckingPrograms' Mega Engine, a more recent Mega Man-styled engine for GameMaker: Studio, along with Game Boy-based spirit, alluding to the Mega Man game boy series (from Mega Man I to V). Some interesting stuff to encounter such as:
  • Over 20+ bosses and a dozen amount of levels.
  • Classic Game Boy styled game play borrowed from the Mega Man series.
  • Strange enemies to face off.
  • A bizarre plot involving some Mega Man characters facing off a... food company.
  • Pop culture from all the world.
  • Randomly borrowed Game Boy game music, including covered ones by me.

Replaced the skin yet again. Let me know if this looks any better and if I can do stuff to improve it. Consider it still WIP but I am rather tired and may not notice issues, so feel free to point them out.

For those wondering, one of the main impetuous for the change was how horrifically out of date our version of MyBB was, it's now up to date. This completely rendered the old design unusable so I've had to simply sort out a new one.

Many of us here have been involved in some aspect of game development—planning, programming, art, music, level design, writing, translation, playtesting, promotion, etc. Whether our projects have been released or canceled, popular or unpopular, we probably have some worthwhile stories to tell. I'd love to hear about your game development experiences (particularly with Mega Man fangames, but any games will do). Insightful stories, funny anecdotes, unreleased audiovisual work with explanations attached...whatever you feel like sharing.

I'll start by sharing the first installment in my developer diary blog post series for OH JOES! (A Proto Man Adventure) (verbosity alert):

They've just announced two new Legacy Collections for the Mega Man X series. Mega Man X Legacy Collection will contain X1-X4, and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 will contain X5-X8. Both collections come out July 24 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

Too bad they're not including Command Mission, but this is pretty good.

The Prototype and Weapon Game

Based on another robot master game, I decided to make one. Here is how it works:

1- You create a robot master and describe what he is based on

2- The person after you should create another one and a weapon used by him/her that is the previous robot master' s weakness. (RM or weapon names can' t be repeated. Using official RMs is also allowed, as long as the previous commenter didn' t do so)

3- And so on...

So to start:

Which Game Maker Version is best with Mega Engine?

$

I noticed it has 3 versions, for different versions of Game Maker. One for Studio 2.0, one for studio 1.4, and one for Game Maker 8.1.

Question is, do any of these have limitations that I need to worry about for making my own 8-bit Mega Man fangame?  Should any of these suffice?  And if not, which would work best?  Do I need the full $1,500 Studio 2 to produce a half-decent Mega Man Game?

The reason I ask this is because I don't feel like sinking money into Studio 2.0 if it isn't necessary, but I would hate to go with 8.1, only to find out, after, say, 2 years of development, that it is bug ridden and has limitations that wouldn't be an issue if I went with Studio 2.0.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Possible Major Bug Report: Revolution Always Crashing When Being Opened

$

So I downloaded the latest 8.7.5 version and played through it, getting the "bad" ending where you don't get all the letters. Had absolutely 0 issues from start to finish on the playthrough. Got to the ending screen where it says "The End ...?" when it crashed out of the game. I've been unable to reopen the game since then. I've tried setting it to Run as Admin, set every Compatibility Mode under the sun, installed DirectX9, deleted the entire game/grabbed a fresh download/replaced files, gotten someone else's copy via Discord, tried opening the game on a different drive, the game flat out does not open anymore. It immediately crashes and says that it stopped responding.

Figured I'd report this here in case it's been completely overlooked since no one really goes for the "bad" ending from what I'm seeing.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Okay, so here goes:

Fat Man (Credit to N-Mario):
[Image: HbnLfnL.gif][Image: E0uhUOV.png]
Obesity Studies robot.  Upon researching WW2, has come to take an interest in nuclear physics.

Dread Woman:
[Image: JnQHMGG.png] [Image: p1U0oIX.png]
Cyber Valkyrie bot, made to test experimental weapons.  Her Dread Shield is completely impenetrable, but drains energy way too fast.

Hydro Woman:
[Image: Y4G0YNf.png][Image: YFBoCp2.png]
Indoor farming (hydroponics) robot.  Ironically hates drugs.

Trash Woman:
[Image: XHq8u4l.png] [Image: Kbf9Kkd.png]
Experimental Trash-Energy robot.  Resents her job, but is impeccable at it.

Joke Man (DELIBERATELY off-model):
[Image: fgwOIQF.png] [Image: oW6uHQH.png]
Hated by everyone who knows him, not much else is known other than the fact that he thinks being a jerk is funny.

Difficulty Man:
[Image: reMvkXN.png] [Image: KDtaLPN.png]
Hard Man's more faithful successor.  Unlike Hard Man, it won't just be his stage that is difficult.

Metro Woman:
[Image: jEs3WhT.png][Image: UjNPrCY.png]
Culture Studies robot.  Turned out to be evil and became a serial killer.

Utility Woman:
[Image: Yp1rkpu.png] [Image: 7eqMGb8.png]
Made to combine electricity and water in order to make both more efficient.  Results were mixed, partly because she likes to PURIFY water.

Do these look right, which ones need improvement (or do all of them)?
